How much jail time do you get for a fatal Washington hit-and-run of a pedestrian?

Back in December 2009 a Tukwila, Washington man, Eric Murillo, decided to get drunk, get in an argument with a pedestrian, Jerome Dumlao, and then run down a pedestrian in a crosswalk.  If that wasn't enough Murillo fled the scene of the accident leaving behind the graving injured pedestrian in this hit-and-run crosswalk accident. This Washington crosswalk collision caused serious and ultimately fatal injuries to Jerome.

The story gets worse when you look at the details.  The hit-and-run driver Murillo and a passenger went out and got drunk.  Murillo's BAC was 0.13, almost double the legal limit of 0.08. Murillo and his passenger were driving around yelling at pedestrians looking for a argument or fight.  They found Jerome Dumlao and words were exchanged while Jerome was in a crosswalk at 2:24 a.m. on December 6, 2009.

Murillo apparently lost it and drove his car forward knocking Jerome to the ground. Murillo then drove his car over Jerome as he was lying on the ground.  Murillo then sped off driving the wrong way down a one-way street.  The nightmare just gets worse because Jerome's wife witnessed the entire episode.

So how much jail time did Murillo get for hunting down a pedestrian in a crosswalk, running down the pedestrian and the fleeing the scene in what proved to be a hit-and-run fatality?  4 1/2 years. Seriously, that's it.  What an outrage to justice when our justice system gives such a small slap on the wrist for intentionally taking a life.

Murillo pled guilty to vehicle homocide and hit-and-run driving.  King County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Ramsdell imposed the paltry sentence of 4 1/2 years, which was reportedly on the high end of the sentencing range of 41 to 54 months.  Something is seriously wrong with our system when the most jail time you can get for killing someone with your car intentionally is 4 1/2 years in prison!
