Reese Witherspoon Hit in Unmarked Crosswalk Pedestrian Accident

Posted on Sep 08, 2011

Actress Reese Witherspoon was hit as a pedestrian in an unmarked crosswalk by a car who failed to see her.  Reese suffered a cut to her forhead and was taken to the hospital to be checked out.  She was lucky to escape with only minor injuries.

We had a client who was a 9 year old boy who was also hit in an unmarked crosswalk.  He was on his way home from school when a daycare van hit him while he was trying to cross the street in an unmarked crosswalk.  He suffered a badly broken ankle, which required surgery to repair.

In Washington pedestrians have the right of way at all intersection even if the crosswalk is not mark with those large white lines.  Many drivers are not aware of this rule of the road, so pedestrian should exercise extra caution at unmarked crosswalks.

If you are injured while crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk it is very important that an investigation be completed and witness names and contact information obtained.  Often times the driver will claim the pedestrian jumped out into the interesection unexpectedly. This can lead to a he-said-she-said  battle.  This is why witnesses and police investigations are import.

Obtaining some legal advise on your rights is another very important step.  A good first step is to order our book the 13 Biggest Secrets Insurance Companies Don't Want You To now About Washington Accident Cases.  The book updates The Guide to Washington Injury Cases and can be ordered here.
